Dyson DC41 Vacuum Cleaner.
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 vacuum cleaner is one of the most popular additions to the “Dyson Ball” family of upright vacuums. It boasts a new suction technology called “Radial Root Cyclone” technology and due to improvements such as these, this vacuum cleaner has the most powerful suction at the head.
Just like the other Dyson vacuums which use the ball as the steering mechanism, the Ball Animal 2 is an upright vacuum cleaner and is identical in height to the Dyson DC25.
Dyson Ball Animal 2 Vacuum Review
As mentioned, the Dyson DC41 comes with a new Radial Root Cyclone suction capability which enables it to generate the most suction where it matters most – at the head of the vacuum.
But this is not where the refinements end. Dyson DC41 vs Animal 2 includes modifications to the ball itself. Unlike the DC25 and the DC24, the DC41 vacuum now contains more components built into the ball. Ultimately the Dyson Ball Animal 2 vacuum is easier to maneuver in tight areas.
Another refinement is in the head components of the Dyson vacuum cleaner. This model now has a self-adjustable base plate which automatically contours itself to the surface for optimal contact. It is one of the main reasons why it has improved the suction power.
The Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner is also not just a great all purpose vacuum cleaner, but like the Dyson DC24 and DC28, this particular model is perfect for cleaning up pet hair – pet owners confirm that it’s able to lift and scoop hair in a single run.
Vacuum Cleaner Upgrades
A lot of people who have used the Dyson DC41 have commented on how much quieter it is vs. other Dyson vacuum cleaners. It almost seems counter-intuitive how this vacuum cleaner can generate the most suction power at the head yet can be the most quiet compared to its cousins. The sound has been described by some as being a lower pitched hum compared to previous models.
Another positive improvement which has been especially appreciated by former owners of the more similar DC25, is that is that the Dyson Ball Animal 2 has got a significantly longer cord length at 35 feet compared to the DC25′s 24 feet or so.
So as we can see there are some marked differences in the Dyson DC41 compared to the previous Dyson models.
No doubt some of these new improved features would be well received if they are also added to other models.
So let’s delve deeper and see how this Dyson has evolved over its counter-parts.
Dyson DC41 Vacuum Features
Apart from many other features, here are six key features that stood out to me.
1. Mini Turbine Head
This tool is invaluable for picking up pet hair and dirt from tight spaces such as cars, stairs and furniture. The brushroll is also super easy to clean in case it spins up too much hair!
2. The Stair Tool
Similar to a handheld or stick vacuum cleaner, the Dyson DC41 makes cleaning stairs a cinch! For homes with carpeted staircases having a vacuum cleaner with this feature is almost essential.
3. The Combination Tool
This is a tool which you can use for crevices and as a dusting brush.
4. Self Adjusting Head
This a new design feature introduced in this model where the cleaner head adjusts automatically to compensate for the height and type of cleaning surface. This means that the head tool maintains optimal contact with the cleaning surface which in turn prevents air leaks and increases suction power. This design does away with any awkward dials which you need to set when changing the surface type like in other vacuum cleaners.
5. Hygienic Canister Easy to Empty
As with the others Dyson ball vacuums the Ball Animal 2 is easy to empty and prevents you from having any contact with the dirt or dust. The canister can easily be emptied via pushing a single button which open the bottom and the dirt simply drops out with the help of gravity.
6. Lifetime HEPA Filter
As with a lot of the Dyson range, the Ball Animal 2 also comes w/ a washable HEPA filter which has been certified by the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America. This unit has been tested to expel air which contains up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than normal air – this is thanks to the washable HEPA filter that traps the smallest microscopic particles.

What buyers are saying:
Most people agree that the suction of the Dyson Ball Animal 2 has exceeded the performance of its predecessors – and let’s face it, most of the Dyson range are renowned for their superior suction.
Both pet owners and people without pets of various floor types unanimously agree that the Ball Animal 2 sucks dirt impressively from all surface types on which it is unleashed. This is also partly due to the automatic self-adjusting cleaner head, which is very good at catering for different carpet heights and types of hard floors.
Here’s a comment from one buyer regarding suction power:
“My wife vacuumed a small sq. ft. area and the Dyson sucked up enough dog hair and dirt to resemble a small rodent…this from a carpet that is vacuumed twice weekly!”
Another much appreciated quality (which was long overdue from previous models) is the longer power cord introduced in this model. For instance there is an additional 10 + feet in the cord length of the DC41 compared to the DC25.
Dyson Ball Animal 2 vacuum comes w/ a large dust canister that is very easy to empty. The dirt simply falls out of the bottom when you open the hatch. This quality coupled with the significant size increase of the canister compared to the DC25 is another big plus for this model.
There is also a common consensus that the Ball Animal 2 appears to feel lighter. But when we compare this to the weight of other units in the Dyson ball range we see that it is the heaviest by comparison.
We suspect that this lighter feeling comes from the Ball Animal 2’s improved maneuverability due to its redesigned ball housing.
Potential Downsides
Seems that with most Dyson vacuums there are some people who think that price for the Dyson Ball Animal 2 is slightly too steep.
But as with a lot of premium products, the price usually reflects the quality of the unit and its unique functionality. In this case you are paying for the improved suction power and performance plus maneuverability which for some is well worth paying for.
There have also been a few negative remarks about the fact that the cord does not automatically retract. That is, you have to manually wind it around at the back of the vacuum.
Overall, the Dyson DC41 vacuum cleaner has stellar buyer reviews online!
